THE Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Cobras finally got back on the winning track as they walloped the reeling University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars, 77-59 in the 2019 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. men's basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum on Thursday, October 3, 2019.

After two straight losses, the Cobras came out with renewed focus and determination as they raced off to a 30-18 lead at halftime. They continued to pour it on in the third period with Lamine Thiam and Shaquille Imperial sparking a 13-4 run with a trio of three-point shots to raise their lead to 19, 42-23.

They eventually brought their lead to 23, 52-29, as wingman Gerald Fernandez completed an and-one right before the end of the third.

The closest that USJ-R could trim the deficit down to was 14 as the Cobras proved too relentless, scoring in transition over and over again to log in the dominant victory, which evened up their win-loss record at 3-3 at the end of the third canto.

Imperial led the Cobras in scoring with 18 points while Thiam filled the stat-sheet up with 14 points, 20 rebounds, three assists, a steal and two blocked shots.

USJ-R lost for the fifth time in a row and fell to 1-5. Left-handed point guard was the lone player to reach double-figures with 14 markers. (VoxPop Cebu)
