A 42-YEAR-OLD woman was seriously injured when her husband stabbed her multiple times inside their house in Sitio Damoyog, Barangay Caliongan, Dalaguete, Cebu, at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
The victim was identified as Nela Bedico Amancio, who sustained six stab wounds. The suspect, her husband, Leon Amancio, 48, fled the scene after the attack and remains at large.
Police Staff Sergeant Rex Pelonio of Dalaguete Police Station, investigator of the case, said that the victim had separated from the suspect due to his abusive behavior and had filed a complaint against him with the Women's and Children's Protection Desk.
Witnesses claimed that the suspect, fueled by anger and jealousy over his wife's intention to pursue further legal action, armed himself with a hunting knife and went to their home with the intent to kill her.
Despite warnings from neighbors, the suspect attacked Nela, who was doing household chores at the time.
Seeing her husband approaching angrily with a knife, the victim attempted to lock herself inside the house. However, the suspect overpowered her and gained entry, stabbing her repeatedly.
The victim was rushed to Bogo Argao District Hospital and later transferred to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City for further treatment.
Police are now conducting a manhunt operation to apprehend the suspect. (DVG)
