THE Davao City Police Office (DCPO) has deployed around 100 police personnel to support the City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO), particularly during rush hours.
Police Captain Hazel Tuazon, DCPO spokesperson, stated that these officers are assigned to the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU), with additional traffic investigators from various city police stations also stepping in to manage traffic flow.
“Dili lang man ang Davao City Police Office, Traffic Enforcement Unit, CTTMO ang makita natu, naa pod sa mga barangay magpasalamat pod ta sa ilaha sa mag assist sa kapulisan ug sa mga taga CTTMO (In addition to the Davao City Police Office, Traffic Enforcement Unit, and CTTMO, barangay personnel are also assisting. We are grateful for their support in working alongside the police and CTTMO),” she said in a radio interview on Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) on December 26, 2024.
Tuazon highlighted the contributions of barangay tanods (village watchmen), who assist schools and other key areas. She emphasized the importance of on-ground coordination to effectively assess and address traffic challenges.
She also attributed the current heavy congestion to the holiday rush, noting that the situation is expected to improve after the season. However, authorities will monitor traffic patterns in the coming months to determine if additional measures are needed.
Traffic congestion in Davao City has long been a concern, particularly during peak hours. Former President Rodrigo Duterte previously called for more personnel to address the issue.
Speaking during the Basta Dabawenyo Christmas Special, Duterte noted that traffic lights alone are insufficient to ease congestion and suggested deploying an additional 50 to 75 personnel to the traffic division. RGP
