AROUND 600 job opportunities are now available for students in Davao City through the Special Program for Employment of Students (Spes), a partnership between the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) and the City Government of Davao.
Shirly Sahid, Spes focal person at the Public Employment Service Office (Peso), shared during the ISpeak media forum on April 3, 2025, that of the 615 slots, 465 are funded by Dole in partnership with private companies like Golden Pathways, McDonald’s, Jollibee, and Gaisano Mall of Davao (Gmall).
The City Government of Davao is offering 150 slots for students seeking public sector jobs.
The program aims to provide work experience and financial assistance to deserving students and out-of-school youth.
To qualify, applicants must be between 15 to 30 years old, not yet graduated from college, and come from families with an income below P168,000.
“The Spes program is open to individuals aged 15 to 30. As long as they have not yet graduated from college, they are eligible to avail of the program,” she said.
Interested students must register online and undergo evaluation at the Peso main office. Registration began on Saturday, and applicants are encouraged to complete the process soon to secure a spot.
Work schedules vary by employer: those in private companies will have 4-hour shifts, while public sector employees will work 8-hour shifts.
Employment duration ranges from 22 to 78 days, depending on the employer’s needs.
Public sector workers will earn P369 per day, while those in private companies will earn P306 per day. Payment will be made directly to the students.
To apply, applicants must submit a birth certificate (PSA or LCR), first-semester grades, a Certificate of Low Income (if applicable), and a 2x2 ID photo. These documents are required to be considered for the program.
