Coquilla, remembered as an outstanding student, was a graduate of Ateneo de Davao University – Senior High School, where she ranked as third honorable mention in 2024. She was pursuing her college education at UP Diliman at the time of her death.

According to investigators, Coquilla suffered at least 38 stab wounds. Her lifeless body was discovered inside her residence, sparking public outrage and widespread calls for justice.

The University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Davao University, and Tagum City Mayor Rey T. Uy have all issued statements expressing profound grief over the senseless killing. They described Coquilla as a bright and promising scholar whose life was cut short by a heinous and violent act.
