THE Bureau of Fire Protection-Davao (BFP-Davao) beefs up its rescue efforts by adding two rescue pick-up trucks and five fire trucks this year.
During the 14th regular session of the 20th Davao City Council, the budgetary request of the BFP-Davao for two units of response vehicles amounting to P5 million was approved on the second reading.
The Committee on Finance, Ways and Means, and Appropriations sponsored the measure after a letter was endorsed to the committee requesting it to pass a resolution or ordinance that would grant legislative authority for the purchase of two 4x4 pick-up trucks for emergency and rescue operations.
FSupt. Anastacio M. Jusay, District Fire Marshall of the BFP-Davao, who endorsed the letter, said that the two pick-up trucks would be used in rescue operations in mountainous and landslide-prone areas where fire trucks cannot easily penetrate.
“Gamit kaayo ning duha ka pick-up trucks nato, especially kung mag-responde ta sa mga mountainous areas. Naay mga landslides nga dili maka-penetrate atong mga firetrucks nga dagko kaayo, at least kaning atong mga pickups makasabay sa mga terrains nga lisod agian,’’ Jusay said in a media interview on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
(These two pick-up trucks are very useful, especially if we have rescue operations in mountainous areas. There are landslides that our big fire trucks cannot penetrate. At least, these pickup trucks can pass through terrains)
Meanwhile, Jusay added that an additional four fire trucks from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) will be turned over to the BFP-Davao soon.
The additional fire trucks will be placed at the BFP stations in Bangoy, S.I.R Matina, Buhangin, and Cabantian.
Jusay emphasized the contribution of the additional fire trucks now that the number of establishments continues to rise in the city, and some of the existing fire trucks have been outdated since their acquisition in the 1980s.
‘’Dakong tabang ang mga brand new fire trucks, especially nagka daghan ang mga structures sa Davao City, and needed nato ang mga bag-o nga firetrucks nga at least maka combat kung sakaling naay mahitabo nga fire emergencies,’’ he added.
