THE Davao City Police Office (DCPO) is investigating the suspected suicide of a 40-year-old businessman who reportedly jumped from the fifth floor of a mall along J. P. Laurel Avenue in Davao City on Monday night, February 17, 2025.
According to the Bajada Police Office, the victim, identified as "Dan," left his home in Greenhills, Bugac, Barangay Maa earlier that day. He told his 61-year-old father that he was going out to buy something.
Security guard Sylvester Pagsibigan Tamalla, who was on duty at Gaisano Mall of Davao, stated that he saw the victim on the fifth floor. Moments later, he heard a scream from the ground floor and found the victim lying face down with visible injuries.
The investigation also revealed that the victim had received medical treatment at Davao Doctors Hospital a week before the incident.
Authorities are now waiting for more information from his wife, who is traveling back from Manila.
The victim’s remains have been brought to Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes for proper arrangements.
In 2019, after a 16-year-old attempted suicide at the same location, the mall management installed barriers on the fifth floor to prevent similar incidents. This safety measure was also among the recommendations made by local authorities.
