IN THE Philippines, families often face challenges with high internet costs and inconsistent speeds. According to the Speedtest Global Index (February 2025), the country ranked 65th globally for mobile internet speeds, with a median download speed of 58.83 Mbps, and 58th for fixed broadband, with a median download speed of 164.31 Mbps (Speedtest, 2025). In terms of affordability, the average monthly cost for fixed broadband in 2024 was approximately ₱2,049, making it the seventh most expensive in the East and Southeast Asia region (BusinessWorld, 2024). In Davao City, while connectivity has improved with increasing fiber-optic coverage, many households still struggle with expensive plans and limited prepaid options. Addressing these challenges, Globe is introducing GFiber Prepaid, aiming to enhance connectivity for families nationwide, including communities in Davao.
On Saturday, July 27, 2024 Globe AT HOME’S GFiber Prepaid held an on-ground barangay event at Barangay Maa, Davao City. As Globe's latest offering, GFiber Prepaid brings affordable and fast internet closer to communities through a one-day grand launch and on-ground activation. This event marked the beginning of a new era in internet connectivity for the residents of Brgy. Maa, offering them freedom from slow and expensive home internet.
Territory Activations Head for VisMin, Cherry Gotamco, highlighted the benefits and uniqueness of the new product offering in an interview. “Most people are actually on postpaid already, but sometimes di natin maiiwasan sa hirap ng buhay mahirapan sila monthly mag bayad, so we saw this as a perfect opportunity to offer this new product na prepaid (but sometimes we can't avoid the hardships of life, making it difficult for them to pay monthly. So, we saw this as a perfect opportunity to offer this new prepaid product),” she said, noting that it's much affordable compared to others.
“They can load when they need to and at the same time swak pa rin sa needs nila kasi mabilis na siya and sulit pa, (it still fits their needs because it’s fast and affordable),” Gotamco added.
Jessah Mae Faustino, 32, one of the residents who participated in the event, shared her thoughts and excitement about GFiber Prepaid, stating, “Nice siya kay dili siya monthly bill ba, dili ka ma-pressure, unlike sa naa kay billing monthly naga-run jud ang billing nimo” (It's great because there are no monthly bills, so you don't feel pressured, unlike with regular billing where the charges keep accumulating).
Lenny Matol and Elsa Bansag, both in their senior year and participants in the event, expressed their joy in taking part in the fun activities. “na lingaw jud mi sa tanan activity, labi na sa Zumba (We really enjoyed all the activities, especially the Zumba),” Bansag said.
Meanwhile, Matol shared her appreciation for the new product offering, stating, “Okay kaayo ilang bag-ong produkto, ganahan ko aning ilang prepaid labi na kay naa pud koy mga bata nga ga eskwela pa” (I’m really impressed with their new product. I like the prepaid option, especially since I have children who are still in school), noting that the product is very helpful for internet access and affordable.
Globe AT HOME launched GFiber Prepaid as a game-changing innovation that aims to democratize access to fiber connectivity in the Philippines. The product offer highlights Reloadable Unli Fiber Internet, the most affordable unlimited prepaid fiber internet option for Filipino homes.
With speeds of up to 50 Mbps,GFiber Prepaid delivers fast, reliable connectivity for up to 6 devices. It ensures a minimum connection speed of 30% of the maximum speed and provides 80% service reliability.
Furthermore, George Kenly Bayron and Carl Alfred Boncales, both senior high school students and residents of Brgy. Maa, also shared their excitement about Globe’s GFiber Prepaid product and the activities. “Makatabang jud siya sa mga estudyante labi na karon na affordable siya (It can really help students, especially now that it’s affordable),” Boncales said.
Bayron added, “Daghan jud malingaw na kabataan” (Many adolescents will really enjoy it). Both he and others expressed their excitement about the Kaya Cup, in which they will be taking part.
In GFiber prepaid, the pay-per-use model eliminates monthly bills and lock-in periods, allowing Filipinos to load their accounts as needed. Options are available for as low as P23 per day, with promo offers including GFiberSURF 199 for 7 days, GFiberSURF 399 for 15 days, and GFiberSURF 699 for 30 days.
“We’re one of the first fiber prepaid products in the market, the fastest and most affordable,” Gotamco told VoxPop Davao.
With a growing customer base, Gotamco stated, “We’re exponentially growing right now,” emphasizing how their initiatives have played a key role in assisting individuals in their transition from offline to online, increasing digital access and engagement across communities.
Territory Business Head for South Mindanao, Rozy Ispina, also emphasized their commitment to bridging the digital gap, stating, “We really wanted to reach out and educate locals about digitalization; pang masa talaga siya because it’s affordable (it’s really for everyone because it’s affordable), and we truly wanted to connect with them.” She also noted, “The goal of Globe is to uplift the lives of Filipinos.”
Beyond introducing the product, the initiative provided interactive experiences designed to guide users in adopting digital solutions that enhance everyday activities. Through hands-on engagements centered on key digital trends such as online streaming, selling, and shopping, attendees were equipped with the knowledge and tools to seamlessly integrate digital services into their daily lives, making the shift from offline to online more intuitive and accessible.
