THE Department of Education (DepEd)-Davao Region has renewed its partnership with VoxPop Davao, officially naming it the official media partner of the Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet 2025.
With the highly anticipated regional sports competition set to bring together 9,000 athletes, coaches, and officials from 11 delegations, VoxPop Davao will once again provide comprehensive coverage across its print, digital, and social media platforms.
Strengthening media partnership
DepEd-Davao Regional Director Allan G. Farnazo formalized the partnership on February 18, 2025, emphasizing the crucial role of media coverage in amplifying the achievements of young athletes.
"As an official media partner, VoxPop Davao is authorized to cover the Davraa Meet 2025, providing extensive media coverage across print, digital, and social media platforms," Farnazo said.
This renewed collaboration builds on the successful partnership established during the 2024 Davraa Meet in Davao City, where VoxPop Davao delivered in-depth coverage of the competition.
Commitment to local sports
VoxPop Davao business manager Donna Cuyos expressed gratitude to DepEd-Davao for renewing the partnership, reaffirming their commitment to championing local sports.
"VoxPop Davao has always been at the forefront of delivering the latest local sports stories to our readers. This renewed partnership empowers us to continue promoting the remarkable talents of young Dabawenyo athletes, especially with the evolving landscape of digital media," Cuyos said.
She highlighted that VoxPop Davao’s multimedia coverage will not only showcase athletic achievements but also help aspiring athletes gain exposure, potentially opening doors for their careers.
Empowering campus journalists
As part of the partnership, DepEd-Davao Region and VoxPop Davao hosted a virtual sports writing training for campus journalists, teachers, and information officers on March 7, 2025.
Award-winning journalist and VoxPop Davao editor Marianne L. Saberon-Abalayan, who has covered major multi-sport events like the Southeast Asian Games and Palarong Pambansa, led the training.
DepEd-Davao Public Affairs Unit head Maria Gemima Valderrama underscored its importance, saying: "This is a great opportunity for campus journalists to enhance their skills in covering Davraa Meet 2025 for their respective divisions."
Participants came from various parts of the region, including Davao City, Davao del Norte, Tagum City, Panabo City, Samal, Digos City, Davao del Sur, Davao Occidental, Davao de Oro, Mati City, and Davao Oriental.
All systems go
Preparations for Davraa Meet 2025, set for March 9 to 15, 2025, in Davao del Norte, are in full swing. The event is co-hosted by the Provincial Government of Davao del Norte and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Tagum City and serves as the qualifying event for the Palarong Pambansa 2025 in Laoag City from May 24 to June 2.
Key stakeholders, including DepEd-Davao Region, the provincial police, and other organizing partners, are holding regular coordination meetings to ensure a smooth and successful hosting of the regional sports fest.
The official opening ceremony is set for March 9 at 3 p.m., where thousands of athletes will compete for regional supremacy and a coveted spot in the Palarong Pambansa 2025.
