ONCE the federal form of government pushes through, the rapid increase of price on agricultural produce may be addressed.
Adrian Tamayo, Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) public relations officer, said the federal government will generate a unique market which will meet the demand of the people living in a specific territory.
"At the moment, the kind of market that we have is a controlled market," Tamayo said in a media forum on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Habi at Kape, Abreeza Malls, Davao City.
Tamayo added even Department of Agriculture (DA) secretary Emmanuel Piñol created a market specifically in Bohol which pushed economic activity in the province.
"All of the other big markets are controlled markets, therefore federalism will address an access to the market because the kind of market is now specific and consistent in addressing to the special demands of the people in the territory," Tamayo said.
He also said the production sites of these agricultural produce will be co-integrated with the shift of government, giving a much affordable price of agricultural goods.
"Because with federalism, the middlemen now are reduced into transportation from up to the immediate market. At the moment, a lot of middlemen are capturing the values of the product because it is a centralized and controlled market, and with the new type of government consumers won't have to worry about meeting their preferences," Tamayo said.
MinDA, Tamayo added, is also pushing for the revitalization of barter trades in specific regions in Mindanao.
"We see barter economy consistent with federalism as a way to address chronic hunger and poverty in Mindanao," Tamayo said.
