THE Department of Trade and Industry-Davao Region (DTI) is urging consumers to purchase only Christmas lights and other electric-powered items bearing the Philippine Standard (PS) Quality and Safety Mark or the Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) Sticker.
DTI Regional Director Romeo L. Castañaga emphasized during the DTI-Davao Annual Media Interface on December 12, 2024, that these marks ensure products meet safety and quality standards.
He also advised consumers to exercise their rights when shopping, whether in physical stores or online, to prevent accidents and unnecessary expenses.
The DTI Bureau of Philippine Standards (BPS) recently updated its list of certified Christmas lights. This list includes product descriptions, manufacturer details, and PS and ICC numbers. These certified lights are designed for connection to a main power source and feature series or series-parallel configurations on flexible conductors.
Manufacturers with PS licenses have passed factory audits and product testing, proving their goods meet Philippine safety and quality standards.
Importers, meanwhile, receive ICC certifications and corresponding labels for each shipment after testing and inspection to confirm compliance with product standards. This certification process ensures that consumers can enjoy a safe and hassle-free holiday season. DEF
