COTABATO CITY — The vice mayor who was shot while delivering a speech at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 24, 2025, in Datu Piang, Maguindanao del Sur, is now in a stable condition.
This was confirmed by Datu Piang Mayor Victor Samama, the father of the victim, Vice Mayor Mohammad Omar Samama.
According to the mayor, his son is now safe after being shot in the abdomen during the attack.
It can be recalled that while the vice mayor was speaking at an event in Barangay Magaslong, Datu Piang when somebody shot him. His bodyguards immediately came to his aid and rushed him to the hospital.
The younger Samama is seeking re-election in the upcoming elections.
Authorities believe that a sniper may have been responsible for the attack, possibly positioned in a high structure in the area.
The mayor admitted that his son had received multiple death threats before the incident.
Meanwhile, the Datu Piang Municipal Police Station has intensified security measures as their investigation continues. EEF
