THE Department of Social Welfare and Development-Davao Region (DSWD-Davao) awarded ₱100,000 cash incentives to two centenarians from Panabo City.
Victoriano P. Crepo, a 100-year-old resident of Barangay Consolacion, received his incentive on January 16, 2025. On the same day, 100-year-old Aurelia S. Chavez was also granted her ₱100,000 incentive.
In addition to the DSWD incentive, both centenarians were also given ₱30,000 by the Panabo City local government.
To qualify for the cash gift, centenarians must present a birth certificate or Philippine passport. If unavailable, other documents such as an Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) ID, any Philippine government-issued ID, or a marriage certificate may be used.
The initiative is in line with Republic Act (RA) 10868, also known as the Centenarian Act of 2016, which provides ₱100,000 in cash incentives to Filipino citizens who reach the age of 100.
RA 10868 also includes additional benefits. Living centenarians will receive a congratulatory letter signed by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., while deceased centenarians will be honored with a Posthumous Plaque of Recognition for their families.
Local governments are also required to provide cash gifts to centenarians, as outlined by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) guidelines.
This act celebrates the lives of centenarians while recognizing their invaluable contributions to society. RGP
