THE Department of Public Works and Highways – Davao Region (DPWH-Davao) has completed approximately 12 kilometers (km) of the Davao City Coastal Road (DCCR), according to Dean Ortiz, the DPWH-Davao spokesperson.
Speaking at a media forum on November 27, 2024, at Ayala Malls Abreeza, Ortiz said that out of the 15.674 km total project length, 12.034 km is finished, 2.424 km is under construction, and 0.447 km has not yet started.
“Yung iba hindi pa po nadadanan kasi pending the completion of the Bucana Bridge (Other sections are not yet accessible because we are still waiting for the completion of the Bucana Bridge),” he said.
The DCCR includes 17 bridges, of which 12 have been completed, spanning a total of 1,511 meters. Four bridges, totaling 124 meters in length, are still under construction.
The Bucana Bridge, a key component of the DCCR, is currently 65.63 percent complete, with an expected finish date of November 29, 2025. The bridge is fully funded through a grant from China.
Ortiz also shared that the DCCR is divided into multiple sections, with seven projects currently ongoing.
The DPWH aims to complete the entire coastal road by 2026 and has requested additional funding to finish the remaining sections.
To date, the project has a remaining budget requirement of ₱2.3 billion. Since construction began in 2017, approximately ₱28.5 billion has been allocated, including ₱3.1 billion for the Bucana Bridge.
The first segment of the DCCR was opened to the public on July 1, 2023, significantly alleviating Davao City's chronic traffic congestion. However, the project has faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and issues with Road Right of Way (RROW). RGP
