THE Davao City Business Bureau has processed approximately 37,135 business permit renewals as of January 22, 2025, according to Bureau head Maribel Paguican. This figure accounts for 80 percent of the total expected renewals, with the remaining 20 percent anticipated to be completed by the January 31 deadline.
Paguican highlighted that over 1,920 permits were renewed in the first 17 days of service this year, a notable increase compared to the same period in 2024. She described the turnout as an encouraging sign of the city’s thriving business community, despite initial expectations of a decline.
“We did not expect na ing ang output, outcome and it is an indication nga gapadayon ang atoang negosyo diri sa siyudad (We did not expect this kind of output or outcome, and it is an indication that businesses in our city continue to thrive),” she said in a radio interview on Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) on Wednesday morning, January 22, 2025.
To manage the high volume of renewals, the Business Bureau has extended operating hours and will remain open on January 28, ahead of the deadline.
Paguican underscored the importance of renewing on time to avoid penalties. Starting February 1, late renewals will incur a 25 percent surcharge, with an additional two percent penalty per month.
Ten processing locations have been established across the city to facilitate the renewal process. The SP Building serves the Poblacion District, while Almendras Gym handles the Talomo and Agdao Districts. Gaisano Grand CityGate Mall caters to Buhangin, and Calinan Gym processes renewals for the Calinan District.
Treasury offices in Baguio, Marilog, Tugbok, Toril, Bunawan, and Paquibato Districts are also available to assist applicants.
To accommodate the anticipated surge on the last day, January 31, key offices such as the SP Building and Almendras Gym will extend their hours until 10 p.m. Gaisano Grand CityGate Mall will operate until 8 p.m., while Calinan, Bunawan, Toril, and Tugbok district offices will remain open until 7 p.m. Offices in more remote districts will follow regular hours, closing at 5 p.m.
