

DAVAO City Vice Mayor Melchor Quitain commended the performance of the 20th City Council, describing their work this year as “very satisfactory.”
In a media interview on Friday morning, December 20, 2024, at the Sangguniang Panlungsod, Quitain highlighted the council’s efficient handling of assigned items, noting that only a few matters remain to be discussed during the final sessions.
“Efficient and disposal sa items that were assigned to them and all the major items were thoroughly deliberated on and approved (The disposal of items assigned to them has been efficient, and all major items were thoroughly deliberated on and approved),” he said.
He said most pending matters, including major ordinances requiring revisions or amendments, have been completed. This includes updating an ordinance that had been in place for 40 years. Additionally, several development applications were approved to support the city's growth.
With the 2025 midterm elections approaching, Quitain assured that the council’s sessions would not be significantly impacted. He explained that while most councilors are seeking reelection, a few are completing their final terms.
He shared that he had already spoken to the councilors, stressing the importance of prioritizing council sessions every Tuesday. He also urged them to hold committee hearings to address any remaining pending items.
“Your work does not stop even though it is campaign period so we have to prioritize still work,” he said.
Quitain expressed hope that councilors would adhere to this guidance, adding that he will continue monitoring their performance to ensure they focus on their responsibilities.
Currently, the 20th City Council is holding a special session for Supplemental Budget 4 and will conclude its work for the year in its final session on December 23, 2024. RGP
