CONSUMERS of Davao Light and Power Company Inc. (Davao Light) will see a slight increase in electricity rates this December. The residential power rate will rise by P0.0957 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), bringing the total rate to P9.2058/kWh from November’s P9.1101/kWh.
Davao Light announced the adjustment on Friday, December 20, 2024, attributing the increase to market volatility. “This is due to higher power supply prices from the Philippine Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) in Mindanao, a platform for trading electricity where Davao Light sources part of its power requirements,” the company explained. The new rate applies to bills issued between December 12, 2024, and January 10, 2025.
In November, Davao Light implemented a P0.6626/kWh hike, raising rates from October’s P8.4475/kWh to P9.1101/kWh, also due to rising WESM costs.
The utility company urged consumers to monitor and manage their energy usage to avoid high bills, especially during the energy-intensive holiday season.
