THE Bureau of Fire Protection-Davao Region (BFP-Davao) reported no major fire-related incidents in Davao City during the holiday season.
F/SINSP Richard D. Quiboquibo, Chief of the Fire Safety Enforcement Branch of BFP-Davao, stated that only one fire incident was recorded during the Christmas and New Year period, which occurred on December 27, 2024, near Nogales Avenue in Barangay 76-A, around 6 p.m.
The incident damaged two houses and partially affected two others, with an estimated loss of over ₱100,000. The cause of the fire remains undetermined, and investigations are ongoing.
“When it comes sa pagsaulog sa Pasko ug New Year during that time, during that day, wala tay naitala na nga fire incident (During the Christmas and New Year celebrations, there were no reported fire incidents on those specific days),” Quiboquibo said in a radio interview on Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) on January 2, 2024.
Meanwhile, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) reported zero casualties during the holiday celebrations. Their primary objective was to prevent injuries or fatalities caused by firecrackers or stray bullets.
Police Captain Hazel Tuazon, DCPO spokesperson, confirmed in a DCDR interview that the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) also reported no firecracker- or firearm-related injuries during the festivities.
Tuazon added that the DCPO confiscated 132 "lantakas" (improvised cannons) from December 13 to January 1, with 69 seized on New Year's Day alone.
She underscored that the DCPO worked closely with barangay officials and tanods, leveraging their local knowledge to identify users of these prohibited devices. RGP
