THE Provincial Government of Davao Oriental has intensified its Alalay para sa mas Luwas ug Andam na Barangay (ALAB) program, aiming to equip barangays with the knowledge and skills needed to prepare for natural disasters.
On January 4, 2024, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Davao Oriental reached approximately 3,557 families in the municipalities of Banaybanay and Lupon through the ALAB program. The initiative specifically targeted Barangays Maputi and Piso in Banaybanay, and Barangays Limbahan and Macangao in Lupon.
Governor Niño Uy emphasized the significance of proactive disaster preparedness, stating that communities must be ready at all times, not just when calamities are imminent.
“Mao nga nahimugso ang programa sa ALAB aron ma-institutionalize ang padayon nga paglihok sa gobyerno para makahatag og kaayohan sa matag-usa dinhi sa probinsya (The ALAB program was institutionalized to ensure the government’s continuous efforts to improve the lives of every individual in the province),” he said.
The program, established under Executive Order No. 48, series of 2024, will be implemented across all 183 barangays in Davao Oriental.
ALAB focuses on capacity-building training, providing residents with the necessary information and skills to respond effectively before, during, and after a disaster.
“Usa kini ka mahinungdanon nga paagi sa pagsiguro nga ang publiko maedukar sa hustong kaalam aron mamenosan ang mga risgo ug makatubag sa bisan unsang emerhensya (This is a crucial initiative to ensure the public is educated with the right knowledge to reduce risks and respond to emergencies),” the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental stated in a Facebook post on January 4, 2024.
