AS PART of its comprehensive coverage of the Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet 2025, the Department of Education (DepEd) Davao Region, in partnership with VoxPop Davao, will host a virtual sports writing training for campus journalists, teachers, and information officers on Friday, March 7, 2025.
VoxPop Davao editor Marianne L. Saberon-Abalayan, an award-winning journalist with 27 years of media experience, will lead the training. She has covered major multi-sports events, including the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, BIMP-Eaga Friendship Games, Palarong Pambansa, Arafura Games, Philippine National Games (PNG), and Batang Pinoy National Championships.
DepEd Davao Region Public Affairs Unit head Maria Gemima Valderrama underscored the significance of the training, saying, "This is a great opportunity for campus journalists to enhance their skills in covering Davraa Meet 2025 for their respective divisions."
As of Thursday morning, March 6, nearly 200 participants had registered. The training aims to equip student journalists with the skills needed to cover various sports in the regional meet, which serves as a qualifier for the Palarong Pambansa, which is set for May 24 to June 2 in Laoag City.
Participants come from various areas, including Davao City, Davao del Norte, Tagum City, Panabo City, the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos), Digos City, Davao del Sur, Davao Occidental, Davao de Oro, Mati City, and Davao Oriental.
The Davraa Meet 2025 will officially open on Sunday, March 9, at 3 p.m.
