DEPARTMENT of Education (DepEd)-Davao City Division Superintendent Rey Solitario has encouraged Dabawenyo athletes to give their all in the upcoming Davao City Athletic Association (Dcaa) Meet 2025 as they prepare for a tougher regional qualifying event in Davao del Norte next month.
"For athletes representing different units in the Dcaa Meet 2025, I hope you have prepared yourselves physically and mentally," Solitario said in a recent Messenger interview with VoxPop Davao.
He expressed excitement for the competition, emphasizing its importance in identifying top athletes who will represent the Davao City Durians in the regional meet. "We aim to maintain our No. 1 rank in the regional meet and increase our gold medal haul in the Davraa and Palarong Pambansa."
The Dcaa Meet 2025 is set for February 3 to 8, 2025.
Solitario highlighted Davao City athletes’ significant contribution to the Davao Region’s fourth-place finish in the 2024 Palarong Pambansa held in Cebu City. The region secured 32 golds, 25 silvers, and 35 bronzes, improving from its sixth-place finish in 2023 with 21 golds, 18 silvers, and 27 bronzes.
"Ngayon pa lang huwag tayong mag-kumpyansa (Even so, let us not be complacent)," he said.
He also acknowledged Davao del Norte’s remarkable performance in the 2024 Davraa Meet, securing 73 golds for the first time in history. "Dili kaayo magkumpyansa karon. Let's give our best to stay on top. The venue will be in Davao del Norte. Lahat kami maging handa nito. We'll improve our training, make use of the availability of the tournament managers, and train our coaches. With logistics, we have a budget to support the learners' incentives, meals, and snacks (Let's not be too complacent this time. We must give our best to stay on top. The venue will be in Davao del Norte, so everyone must be prepared. We will enhance our training, maximize the availability of tournament managers, and further develop our coaches. Davao City’s one-month in-house training for the Davraa Meet 2025, scheduled for March 9 to 15, will commence right after the Dcaa Meet 2025, running from February 9 to March 8, 2025.
"Kinahanglan nato panindigan ang atong pagka champion. We have a very supportive LGU. Maulaw pud mi nga dili maningkamot (We must defend our championship title. With the strong support of our LGU, we’d be ashamed not to give our best effort)," he said. MLSA
