THE Department of Science and Technology Region XI (DOST XI) recently conducted a Trainers’ Training on Halal for 20 faculty and personnel of the Philippine Women’s College of Davao (PWC), as part of its ongoing support for Halal science and education in the region.
Held under the DOST Halal Science and Technology (S&T) Program, the training aimed to strengthen the capacity of the DOST-PWC Research and Innovation Center for Halal Science (RICHeS) by developing a dedicated pool of Halal trainers. These trainers will play a key role in providing Halal-related education and services to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), as well as other key stakeholders in the Davao Region.
“The development of local experts on Halal is crucial in promoting awareness and ensuring compliance across sectors such as food, tourism, and manufacturing,” said DOST XI Regional Director Dr. Anthony C. Sales.
“By investing in training programs like this, we are building long-term capability that will benefit communities and industries alike,” he added.
The activity supports DOST’s farm-to-fork Halal strategy, which emphasizes the importance of Halal compliance throughout the value chain, from raw materials and production to processing, packaging, and distribution.
The DOST XI-led training also responds to the growing interest in Halal products and services, both domestically and globally, and reflects the agency’s commitment to science-based approaches in supporting inclusive and sustainable development. PR
