DAVAO CITY — The Department of Science and Technology in Davao Region recently hosted a filmmaking workshop in preparation for the upcoming Indie-Siyensa Filmmaking Competition.
The workshop is a team-up between the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).
The two-day workshop held at the Cinematheque Center Davao provided participating students with valuable knowledge in gender-fair media, science communication, animation, scriptwriting, and directing.
It will also promote the generation of story ideas in the field of Science and Technology, in preparation for the upcoming Indie-Siyensya Filmmaking Competition.
“Filmmaking can serve as a way to promote science and technology in a manner that’s both educational and creatively engaging,” said DOST Davao Regional Director Dr. Anthony C. Sales.
Sales said that the medium of filmmaking makes science more accessible to the public.
During the workshop, participants engaged in discussions on gender-fair media, science communication, animation, scriptwriting, and directing. Industry professionals and subject-matter experts were on hand to share insights on crafting narratives that highlight scientific concepts while addressing social issues.
Among the lecturers included filmmaker Kristoffer Brugada who spoke on scriptwriting, Sheryl Rose Andes, Chair of the Digital Film Program at Mapúa University facilitated a hands-on directing workshop.
The science and technology themed science workshop is aimed at inspiring more entries for the 9th Indie-Siyensa Filmmaking Competition.
