THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced that the Bucana Bridge is now 73 percent complete, with construction progressing ahead of schedule.
DPWH Senior Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain stated that the team is fast-tracking the project and expects to finish it before the original November 2025 deadline — 24 months after the notice to proceed was issued to contractor China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC).
“Although recent rains in Mindanao have posed some challenges, we are confident that the Bucana Bridge will be finished ahead of schedule. Our project engineers and the contractor are committed to expediting the work,” Sadain said during a site inspection on January 27, 2025.
DPWH anticipates the bridge’s completion by the third quarter of 2025. Once finished, it will connect Davao City’s eastern and western coastal areas, providing an alternative route to ease traffic congestion on major roads.
The four-lane, six-span extradosed bridge features advanced structural elements designed to complement the Davao City Coastal Road. Its modern design ensures sufficient navigational clearance for maritime traffic along the Davao River.
Funded through a P3.126 billion China Aid Grant, supplemented by the Philippine National Government, the project is part of the broader Davao Bridge Project with an 18-month construction timeline.
“Once completed, the Bucana Bridge will accommodate up to 35,000 vehicles daily, improving traffic flow and reducing congestion in Davao City’s coastal areas,” DPWH wrote in their Facebook post on January 28, 2025.
