THE last project of Kapuso actress and singer Julie Anne San Jose, "Maria Clara at Ibarra," left fans speechless with her remarkable performance.
While the 29-year-old "Asia's Limitless Star" exhibited a demure stance in the TV series, her role in her new film with reel and real-life sweetheart Rayver Cruz has a totally opposite take.
In the GMA Public Affairs movie "The Cheating Game", a bolder and more mature Julie Anne can be seen. However, her character "Hope" is relatable as she showcases a realistic side to modern-day dating.
"This is a breath of fresh air kaya I'm very excited," the actress exclaimed during a virtual meet-up with the entertainment press recently.
"Ibang Julie ang makikita n'yo rito: mas daring, bolder, and stronger," she said. "I had to take a leap of faith. I had to take risks."
She revealed that they started filming in 2020 but had to take a halt because of the pandemic. Only this year that they continued shooting for this much-awaited first-ever offering of GMA Public Affairs.
"Ang bilis-bilis talaga ng panahon. Pero, we're excited and grateful," Julie Anne quipped.
For his part, Rayver shared with the entertainment writers how ecstatic he is that moviegoers will finally see and experience what his girlfriend is capable in the big screen.
"Ibang-ibang Julie Anne San Jose ang makikita ninyo kaya talagang nakaka-proud," the 34-year-old actor said.
He also noted that while he felt mixed emotions while looking at the product of their hardwork, it was excitement that overpowered everything. According to him, the kind of acting they gave for this new project is what the script really asked for.
Judging from his statements, it can be surmised that they must have emphasized the different ways people react to cheating.
"In real life, iba-iba naman talaga ang take natin sa cheating, at 'yon din ang makikita sa movie," he said, adding that different situations get different reactions.
In the film, Hope (Julie) is an idealistic young professional who thinks that she knows everything and that she has the capacity to change the world. She is devoted to her fiancé and the non-governmental organization (NGO) they built together. But things changed, especially her perspective of relationships when a sex video of her boyfriend with another woman surfaces.
Following this painful event in her life, she designs a "cheat sheet" that details the "anatomy of a cheater" as she starts a new career as a content producer in a company that, unknown to her, moonlights as a troll factory.
She then meets Miguel (Rayver), a self-made businessman who exudes green flags for a partner, whom Hope feels to be the perfect guy for her. But as they become closer, long-kept secrets begin to surface.
What could be the ending of their story?
