FIRE swiftly consumed 26 houses, a church, and a warehouse in four separate incidents that occurred on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, in Davao City.
According to a report from the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), eight houses were burned at 9:40 a.m. on Alley 10, Barangay Centro, Agdao District, and another eight were razed at 3:15 p.m. at Farland Extension, Barangay Dumoy, Talomo District.
In the Farland Extension fire, Jocelyn Salvador, 47, stated that she saw flames spreading from the wall of Rosario Cajes' house. Since the houses in the area were made of light materials and were closely built together, the fire quickly spread to neighboring houses, destroying seven other houses and a church, and causing an estimated damage of P200,000.
Fire Senior Inspector (FSI) Alejandro E. Abonit II of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Toril fire sub-station reported that the fire was controlled at 3:24 p.m.
Meanwhile, in Barangay Centro, Agdao, firefighters battled the blaze, which reached a second alarm and caused an estimated P492,000 in damages. Eight houses were burned, with five completely destroyed and three partially damaged. The fire was fully controlled at 10:37 a.m.
Meanwhile, a two-story warehouse at Central 1, Binugao, Toril, Davao City, was also burned, incurring damages worth P15,000.
Another fire broke out yesterday morning, January 29, 2025, at Purok 26-B, Riverside, Barangay Maa, Davao City, where 10 houses were engulfed in flames. However, the cause of the fire has not yet been disclosed.
Despite these incidents, no casualties were reported. Social workers from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) have begun assessments to provide financial assistance from the government. JPC
