THE Bureau of Fire Protection – Davao City Fire District (BFP-Davao) has estimated the damage from a gas leak explosion at Damosa Gateway, Damosa Complex, Angliongto Avenue, Lanang, Davao City, on Friday evening, January 31, 2025, at approximately P360,000, fire authorities reported.
According to the Bajada Police Station, under Police Major Jethro Salanap, police units quickly responded after reports of the explosion, which affected several establishments, particularly food outlets and restaurants, within a 30-square-meter area.
The blast, caused by a leaking liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tank, left six individuals injured, all of whom were immediately transported to a nearby hospital.
Witnesses reported seeing smoke rising from an 11-kilogram LPG tank, which ignited when it came into contact with a nearby electric fryer, triggering the explosion.
Investigations into the cause of the leak are ongoing, and authorities are monitoring the situation.
Meanwhile, Damosa Land issued a statement announcing that the affected area will temporarily close for restoration while investigations continue. The company is also implementing additional safety measures and thanked emergency teams for their swift response.
“As we work closely with authorities to conduct a thorough investigation, a portion of Damosa Gateway will be temporarily closed to facilitate necessary restoration efforts. In line with our commitment to safety, we are also putting additional precautionary measures in place to prevent similar incidents. The well-being of our employees, tenants, and patrons remains our top priority,” the company said. DEF
