THE Office of Civil Defense-Davao Region (OCD-Davao) reported that several areas in the region suspended classes on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, due to heavy rains caused by the easterlies.
In Davao Occidental, classes were suspended in Jose Abad Santos, Malita, and Sarangani. Jose Abad Santos Mayor Jason John Joyce issued an executive order suspending all classes and mobilizing disaster response teams. Malita Mayor Bradley Bautista also suspended government work alongside classes, while Sarangani Mayor Adelan De Arce ordered an afternoon class suspension and advised a work-from-home setup for educators.
In Davao de Oro, the provincial government announced class and work suspensions in New Bataan, Monkayo, Montevista, Compostela, Maragusan, Laak, Nabunturan, Maco, Mawab, Mabini, and Pantukan. Authorities remain on standby, closely monitoring the situation and urging residents in flood- and landslide-prone areas to stay alert.
In Davao del Norte, classes were suspended in Asuncion and San Isidro, while in Davao Oriental, Mati City, Boston, Manay, and Governor Generoso also halted face-to-face classes.
Mati City Mayor Michelle Rabat, through Executive Order No. 18, Series of 2025, suspended classes at all levels in both public and private schools, as well as government office work, due to the orange rainfall warning in Davao Oriental.
Meanwhile, Manay Mayor Jon Marco Dayanghirang announced on Facebook that classes and school operations were suspended as a precautionary measure. He urged residents to stay alert and monitor weather updates.
OCD-Davao’s Heavy Rainfall Warning No. 3 placed Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, and Davao Occidental under a yellow warning, indicating possible flooding in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous regions.
“The public and the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices concerned are advised to monitor the weather condition and watch for the next warning,” OCD-Davao stated. RGP
