

KAPALONG National High School (KNHS) of Davao del Norte made a stunning debut, capturing the high school championship, while Lt. Cipriano Villafuerte Sr. Elementary School (LCVSES) of Davao City successfully defended its elementary division title in the 16th Davao Baseball Cup, which concluded Saturday, February 23, 2025, at the LCVSES field.
KNHS pulled off an upset in its first tournament appearance, shutting out 2024 runner-up Baguio National School of Arts and Trade (Bnsat) of Davao City with a dominant 3-0 victory.
Pitcher Vinz Froila Adanza, who spearheaded KNHS’ triumph, was named most valuable player (MVP).
Bnsat settled for second, while Andili National High School of Mawab, Davao de Oro, secured third place with a commanding 5-0 win over Crossing Bayabas National High School (CBNHS) of Toril, Davao City.
In the elementary division, LCVSES escaped with a 6-5 win over Maniki Central Elementary School of Kapalong, Davao del Norte in their title match. LCVSES pitcher Wade Ticong earned the MVP honors.
Meanwhile, Andili Elementary School of Mawab, Davao de Oro, crushed Baguio Central Elementary School 10-5 to secure third place, relegating the latter to fourth.
The two-day tournament featured 23 teams and was presented by the Tokyo Kichijoji Lions Club. It was organized by the Department of Education (DepEd)-Davao Region, DepEd-Davao City, Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai, PNJKIS, and Mindanao Kokusai Daigaku, with support from the Japan Foundation Manila, Datu Uchida Development Foundation Inc.
