NABUNTURAN — The provincial government of Davao de Oro and the municipal government of Monkayo distributed immediate assistance to the landslide victims in Monkayo.
Twenty-five families, who were affected by separate landslides in Monkayo town’s Barangays Diwata and Upper Ulip on January 15 and 16 respectively, received food packs, and family kits from the local government units.
Families with damaged houses got additional cash assistance from Governor Dorothy Montejo-Gonzaga and the local government unit of Monkayo.
A report from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office indicated that a landslide occurred in Purok 22, Barangay Diwata at around 8 p.m. on January 14, destroying a house and partially damaging another.
Also, the landslide in Barangay Upper Ulip on January 16 displaced two households.
Since January 14, the province experienced continuous rains due to the Easterlies, causing landslides in different areas in the province, and resulting in the suspension of classes.
Six towns in the province suspended classes on January 15, including Montevista, Compostela, Monkayo, Mawab, New Bataan, and Maco.
Local government units of Montevista and Monkayo, however, extended their class suspension declarations on January 16. PIA DAVAO
