A BIG fan of scents, my nose took me to explore beyond bottled perfumes. This is how I was introduced to the world of home fragrances, particularly that of Mia Maison.
Mia Maison is a Filipino brand specializing in making homes around the country fragrant. Born in 2006 out of the passion of Shirley Reyes and named after her daughter, the brand carries various items like atomizers, humidifiers and diffusers. Depending on your needs, there is a special product available.
A question that may pop up in your mind is why we even bother making our homes smell good. For one, we rest in our homes, and unpleasant smells from fish or other sources can make our experience uncomfortable. Another reason is that scent adds a personal touch to our rooms, making the mind associate the room with the scent, and the scent with the memories we make in our homes.
While scented candles are the more popular ways to liven up a room, concerns about safety can make candles unappealing to many. One of Mia Maison's more popular products is the water-based scents to be used with air purifiers or atomizers. The accessory, which may need an initial investment of around P1000 or more, can fill large rooms with fragrance by cycling the water-based scents into the air.
Mia Maison offers a variety of these water-based scents, like citronella, lemon grass or vanilla, which are sold separately. They also offer room mists for quicker application to rooms. I believe a disadvantage to this, since they are sprayed, is that they do not linger as long as humidifiers.
Personally, I very much prefer their fresh bamboo reed diffusers. The reeds, which are porous sticks, carry fragrant oils and diffuse them in the immediate vicinity. Since they don't need machinery, the reed diffusers work best in small spaces. This is still preferable for me as it maintains the intimacy of the green scent of bamboo in a smaller environment.
If you want to explore the scents, in my opinion, it is safer to start with the fresh bamboo. In fact, the fresh bamboo fragrance has become the brand's signature scent, and is usually featured. I also believe lavender is a safe and soothing scent for novices to home fragrances.
