WHAT'S the next best thing to being in Thailand and feasting on the land's culinary fare? The Thais coming to Davao to cook and perform for their guests. Yes, nothing is lost in its authenticity. Sawasdeekrap, Thailand!

The Thais communicated well with the Davaoeños is the universal language of food via its "Thai Culinary Delights 2019" at the dusitD2 Hotel. This was one of the events of the Royal Thai Embassy in Manila to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between the Kingdom of Thailand and the Republic of the Philippines. On separate occasions, the Thai embassy hosted the Friendship Golf Tournament and Thai Film Festival. Co-hosting the event was the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

Present were local dignitaries, members of the Mindanao Diplomatic Corps, Thai and Filipino tourism and travel officials and the local media. The venue was packed. Perhaps the attendance from the local community proves how much Thai cuisine is loved in this part of the country.

Learning the process of Thai cooking was also highlighted. Demonstrating their skills in the show kitchen were the Thai chefs who performed the intricacies, in their case, the simplicity, of the much-loved cuisine. The VIPs gave them a hand in the preparation.

To complete the celebration, artists and performers from the renowned Siam Niramit, a live and lavish theatrical presentation about Thailand's cultural history, complete with live elephants, gave a snippet of their show in Bangkok.

It was a wonderful evening of everything Thai happening in my own city. Khob kun Krub!
