TO SUPPORT struggling overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the region, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration-Davao Region (Owwa-Davao) continues to offer livelihood aid through its "Balik Pinas, Balik Hanapbuhay" Program, just in time for the holidays.
Recently, 60 distressed OFWs from various towns in the region received financial assistance to help fund their selected livelihood projects. The program provides a maximum P20,000 livelihood support package aimed at offering immediate aid to returning or displaced OFWs.
According to an Owwa-Davao social media post, the program targets distressed OFWs who have permanently returned home, assisting them and their families in their transition.
Owwa-Davao encourages qualified distressed OFWs in the area to apply for assistance. They can reach out via their hotline at 09516578812 or visit their office at the Lynjun Alegre-Sardido Building, Candelaria Street, Ecoland, Davao City.
Additionally, in December, part of the aid involved facilitating the repatriation of remains for two OFWs who died due to illness. One worked as a domestic worker in Oman, while the other was a lumberjack in Suriname.
The Owwa-Davao repatriation team ensured their remains were returned to their families and safely transported to their homes.
In 2023, the Overseas Filipino Workers Families' Welfare and Crisis Center, under the City Social Welfare Development Office (CSWDO), helped 222 migrant workers and their families.
According to Rosevic Joey Jayme, a CSWDO social welfare assistant, 114 of those assisted were distressed OFWs, while 108 were family members left behind.
The CSWDO also provided a total of P170,000 in crisis intervention funds to 19 OFWs and 19 families. DEF
