THE 2nd National Special Weapons and Tactics (Swat) Challenge, hosted by the Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 opens Tuesday, November 6, at Team Davao Rifle and Pistol Shooting Range, Diversion Road, Maa, Davao City.

Police Superintendent Rey N. Cuevas, acting chief of the Regional Police Community Relations Office, said the challenge will run from November 6 to 10 and will be participated by different units of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) counterparts across the country.

The 12-stage challenge features marksmanship, close quarter battle, sniping challenge, and physical agility of participants.

"The shooting competition is comprised of different categories that aim to develop teamwork and to enhance the specialized capabilities and effectiveness of our uniformed personnel particularly in responding armed situations, unconventional warfare, counter-insurgencies and other emergency situations," Cuevas said.

He underscored the event's significance considering that crimes committed by persons using sophisticated weapons and approaches are notably increasing.

The tactical competition is deemed as a way to showcase the skills, strength, and stamina of law enforcers through the various challenges and also to determine the response capability of the elite units in addressing general threats that require tactical police intervention.

The first Swat Challenge was held in Davao City last year where the Special Action Force (SAF) Team 2, SAF Team 1 and National Capital Region Police Office-Rapid Development Company (NCRPO-RDC2) were declared winners.
