A FAMILY of three who are all members of the New People's Army (NPA) surrendered to authorities in Davao City on Thursday, December 20, and turned over several firearms.
The former rebels were presented during the press conference Friday, December 21, at the Clubhouse, Police Regional Office Davao (PRO-11) at Camp Sergeant Quintin Merecido, Catitipan, Davao City.
During the conference, PRO-11 director Police Chief Superintendent Marcelo Morales said the three surrendered at around 5:45 a.m. at Davao City Police Office (DCPO) after they signified their intention to surrender.
Morales identified the surrenderers as alias Mancio, 52, his wife Cena, 49, and their son, alias Ka Jessie, 27, married.
All three said they were active members of the NPA under Pulang Bagani Command (PBC) 1 operating in the tri-boundaries of Davao City, Bukidnon and Davao del Norte.
The couple and their son are residents of Barangay Talandang, Tugbok, Davao City.
The three surrenderers brought along with them a homemade Ingram sub-machine gun with around 50 rounds of live ammunition; 9mm pistol, with live ammunition; eight pieces of M203 live ammunition, and two fragmentation hand grenades.
Based on initial investigation, the residence of the surrenderers served as the meeting place and depository of firearms by the NPAs whenever they have missions in Davao City.
The son also admitted that he was involved in the series of atrocities perpetrated by the NPAs, including the attack and burning of Lapanday in April 2017.
The couple was recruited in 2015 after the communist group gave them money for bail in case they were detained over their theft case. The communists also allegedly promised that the case would be dismissed.
