FOLLOWING the launch of its campaign against unsafe driving, the Davao City Police-Traffic Group (DCPO-TG) filed cases against 49 individuals for violation of Republic Act 1058, or Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013.
"Na-inquest na po sila lahat naka-post naman ng bail ang lahat naka avail na ng kanilang temporary liberty through posting of bail," DCPO-TG head Rolan Raquid said during the AFP-PNP Press Corps media forum Wednesday, March 6, at The Royal Mandaya Hotel.
Under the law, the violator faces a penalty of three months imprisonment and P20,000 to P80,000 fine for the first offense, if he or she did not commit physical injury or homicide. If there is a physical injury, the violator will be fined P100,000 to P200,000. If the violation resulted in homicide, the fine will range from P300,000 to P500,000.
For holders of a non-professional driver's license who violate the law, their licenses may be confiscated and suspended for one year. They will also also face perpetual revocation for the second conviction. On the other hand, professional driver's license holders may face perpetual revocation of their license. Perpetual revocation disqualifies the person to have a driver's license.
"Kung unsay mamahimo sa judge nga maghatag sa ila ug verdict mao tong tumanon sa Land Transportation Office (The penalty will depend on the verdict of the judge, which will be honored by the LTO)," Raquid said.
DCPO-TG said they issued a temporary operators permit to 2,017 individuals for driving without a helmet while 5,379 were issed a TOP for violation of RA 4136, also known as the Land Transportation and Traffic Code. (Randie J. Comilang)
