DAVAO City's Ancillary Service Unit (ASU) cleared 500 sidewalk stores during their series of clearing operations in different areas in the city, Thursday, January 3.

The clearing operations were held at San Pedro, Agdao, Bankerohan, Illustre, and Uyanguren Street.

A total of 182 sidewalk stores were cleared in Uyanguren, 107 in San Pedro, 89 in Bankerohan, 76 in Illustre, and 46 in Agdao.

ASU demolition team coordinator Juliet Enero said in a phone interview with VoxPop Davao that the sidewalk vendors were notified on November 2018 about the clearing operations.

"Ang area na una gi-clearing is Uyanguren, tapos Agdao, then San Pedro (We first conducted the clearing operation in Uyanguren, then Agdao, and San Pedro Street)," Enero said.

She added, "Yung mga double side pinaalis na namin kasi ang usapan namin nung November, pinapayagan sila mag double side pero until December 31 lang po (We cleared those double side because what we agreed last November, we allowed then to double side but only until December 31)."

Enero said the clearing operations were made only for double side vendors since their permit was only until after the New Year celebration.

She said the operation was generally peaceful despite few hardheaded sidewalk vendors.

"Nag-usap na naman kami na mag double side from November 30 until December 31 lang. May mga mangilan-ngilan na nag react pero okay naman po (We already talked about the double side but only from November 30 until December 31)," she said.

There were 19 personnel from ASU demolition team who conducted the clearing operations.
