THE staff of special assistant to the President Bong Go succumbed to his self-inflicted gunshot wound yesterday after two days of being in a comatose following his suicide attempt on Tuesday, July 31, 2018.

Davao City Police Office (DCPO) spokesperson Police Senior Inspector Ma. Teresita Gaspan confirmed to VoxPop Davao that Go's staff identified as Leo Angelo Apara, 38, who committed suicide at the Office of Special Assistant to the President (OSAP) office in Barangay 20-B Barrio Obrero, Davao City around 11 a.m. on Tuesday has passed away.

He was declared dead at 12:38 a.m., Thursday, August 02, 2018.

Gaspan said investigation is still ongoing and they could not yet provide any other information.

"That is all our update," Gaspan added.

On Tuesday, Apara attempted to end his life by shooting himself in their office located in Barangay 20-B Barrio Obrero around 11 a.m.

Based on the witness' account, Apara went inside the office's stock room and minutes later, they heard a gunshot which prompted them to rush inside the room. They were shocked to see the unconscious staff sitting on the boxes soaked in his own blood.

After the incident he was rushed to San Pedro Hospital for medication, however, he was comatose.

Police said people close to the victim said that they were not aware of any emotional problem or conflict that he might have had with anybody that would lead him to taking his own life.

The Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered a .38 caliber revolver loaded with four bullets, one spent cartridge, and one fired bullet and Gaspan said they were still verifying with the Firearms and explosive Division the ownership of the firearm that Apara used.

Go said Apara was one of his trusted staff who has helped him in giving assistance to the needy.

"We are deeply saddened with the death of one of our staff in Davao City. We would like to refrain from making any further comments about the incident as a sign of respect to the family, colleagues and loved ones. Lastly, we would like to request that you offer prayers for the eternal repose of his soul," Go said in a statement.
