THE Police Regional Office in Davao Region (PRO 11) vowed to intensify its anti-piracy operation across the region after a series of raids that yielded P65 million worth of pirated DVD movies.
"We will surely intensify our anti-piracy efforts in order to eradicate the production and marketing of these pirated discs. We will strengthen this campaign not only in Davao City but also for other provinces of the region," PRO 11 regional director Police Chief Superintendent Marcelo Morales.
Morales discouraged the public from patronizing pirated items as this violates the law.
"Buying and tolerating video and music piracy is allowing theft and violation of the intellectual property right as to its copyrights, so there is no place for piracy here in Davao Region because it is the same as stealing and patronizing stolen tangible and intangible property(ies)," he added.
On September 6, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) and Optical Media Board (OMB) conducted an inspection and mission order in identified media stalls and stores throughout Davao City through its city-wide simultaneous inspection and raids of copyrighted materials such as "compact discs" (CDs) and DVDs for violation of the provisions in RA 9239 otherwise known as Optical Media Act of 2003.
The anti-piracy operation led to the confiscation of 443 sacks of pirated items. DCPO and OMB likewise signed a MOA for a continuous conduct of operation and enforcement of the law to curb the proliferation of pirated music and films discs in the city.
