THE 19th Davao City Council passed a resolution on Thursday, April 17, pushing for additional hazard pay to all medical frontliners in the city who are preventing the spread of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
In a resolution filed by Councilor Pamela Librado-Morata under suspended rules, she is requesting the appropriate government agencies for additional hazard pay to all medical frontliners in the city who are giving medical assistance to all Covid-19 patients.
She said this is in accordance to the Republic Act No. 11469 also known as the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act and Republic Act No. 7305 also known as the Magna Carta of Public Health Workers, which gives authority to grant additional hazard pay or special risk allowance to all medical frontliners.
"In fighting the war against Covid-19, our medical frontliners both in the private and public health industry such as doctors, nurses and other medical staff are the most exposed to the threat of Covid-19," Librado-Morata said during her speech.
She added that some doctors and health workers have already been infected by the virus.
"Despite these unfortunate events, our health workers and medical frontliners especially in the City of Davao still continue to risk their lives and respond to the call of their duty in giving medical treatment and assistance to ill patients," the councilor said.
The passage of the resolution came after Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) bared that two administrative personnel of their hospital, including a senior citizen, succumbed to Covid-19.
SPMC chief Dr. Leopoldo Vega revealed the first patient died last week while the recent one perished Wednesday morning.
Vega added that they were among the 12 frontline workers he earlier mentioned to have been tested with the virus.
Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, recently pledged to donate her P2.1-million annual salary to all Covid-positive health workers of SPMC where each would receive P50,000 per patient. RGL
