A DAVAO City councilor is planning to file an ordinance on a Clean as You Go (Claygo) policy to encourage Dabawenyos to clean their mess in restaurants as well as practice segregation of wastes.
Davao City Councilor Diosdado Mahipus Jr. said in an interview with the Davao City Disaster Radio on November 10, 2022, that he is eager to introduce the Claygo in the food services establishments in the city to urge Dabawenyos to practice cleanliness.
"Ang uban man gud wala pa sila kabalo anang clean as you go. Sa laing nasud ing-ana man, mas mahal mokaon pag diha ka sa restaurant kay nagbilin ka og hugaw unya ikaw ra pud dapat manglimpyo diha sa imuhang hugaw (There are some who do not clean as they go. In other countries, they practice this even if it is an expensive restaurant)," he said.
However, Mahipus said for his proposed ordinance, it will not cover all types of restaurants. He said the one he will be filing will only apply to food services using disposable containers or utensils.
"Kung mahimo sa atong mga kaigsonon, kita na ang mo-segregate ana ug maglabay sa basurahan. Dili kay naa ta'y plastic gigamit, ato ra pud ibilin sa lamesa, dili na siya nindot, dapat makatabang ta, it's a manifestation of our kagustohan na protektahan atoang environment (I would encourage Dabawenyos to segregate their trash properly. It cannot be that if our food is served on a plastic container, we would just leave on the table after eating. That not nice to look at. We gave to also do our part in protecting the environment)," Mahipus said.
The planned proposal of the Claygo policy stemmed from an incident at a resort in Davao Oriental. In a viral post on Facebook, the resort posted photos of a messy villa and at the same time called out the previous guest who used it.
"Oy di mo magdimak oy, manghinlo ba ya mo ha kay maulaw ta, clean as you go! Kay kining siyudad ato man ni, di man ni sa gobyerno lang, sa opisyal lang o sa pipila lang, ato mani (Let's not be messy. We have to clean as we go because this is our city)," Mahipos said.
He said that by practicing Claygo, Dabawenyos are also helping those who work to clean up after other people's mess.
"Kung makatabang ta sa ilaha, mas maayo, so di ta maghugaw-hugaw, unya ato ning limpyuhan ning atong syudad kay mao man ni atong puy-anan, balay man nato ning Davao. Asa man diay mo mamalhin diay didto sa mas hugaw? Diri ta kay limpyo (It would be good if we can help them a bit. Let's keep our city clean because this is our home. Would you want to live in a messy home? No. Let's live where it is clean)," Mahipus said.
He also encouraged the public to reprimand those who make a mess.
"Pamadlong mo og kung naay maghugaw-hugaw, kay pakauwaw na sila (Reprimand the person if they are being too messy)," Mahipus said. KSD
