THE City Government of Davao recently bared the list of individuals who qualified for the educational assistance under the Medical Educational Assistance Program of the Educational Benefits System Unit under the Office of the City Mayor on Friday, July 20.
Full scholarships were granted to Vincent Billy Domingo Amacna, Franz Josef Bandola de Nuevo, Joseph Arnold Dagsan Gomez, Dale Redija Hontiveros, Joanna Ruth Rentuza Jurilla, Jose Louie Misterio Paras, Razel Flores Pencerga, Danperl Geneblasco Rufule, Virgie Rose Carredo Putian, and Cheryl Padao Romaguera.
Meanwhile, half scholarship beneficiaries include Deanne Rose Dignos Alo, Kristeena Beatrice Uy Bautista, Psylah Trisha Alonsagay Caminos, Mary Rose Enoc Catalbas, Vanessa Olga Jumawan Dagondon, Marla Joy Sarande Niog, Jun Paolo Pelpinosas Orlanes, Krista Mae Damayo Paulino, Sarah Gladys Acusar Ranay, and Crizghil Evangelio Sarad.
The qualified applicants, in an announcement posted on the City Government of Davao Facebook page, will receive SMS on the schedule of orientation.
"Congratulations and good luck to all the scholars!" the post said.
This grant is under the Executive Order 11 Series of 2017, also known as an order repealing Item 20 of Section 2 on "General Qualifications," and amending item 24 of Section 2 and 4 of "Scholarship benefits for medical and law educational assistance program" of the Executive Order No. 7, Series of 2014, otherwise known as an "Order strengthening the educational assistance program of the city government of Davao", and for related purposes.
Through the executive order, Item 20 of Section 2, which states that only Indigenous People (IPs) can qualify for the scholarship benefits for law and medical students, however, after citing that few only have qualified, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio expanded it last year and made it available to underprivileged Dabawenyos who want to avail the program.
Each medical school student, per semester, is entitled to receive P130, 000, for tuition and books. The students will get to choose their school for as long as it is located in Davao City.
Education is part of the 10 priorities of the mayor during her term to help deserving individuals who wish to study medicine and law but don't have the financial capability to do so.
Earlier, a total of 23 Dabawenyos who qualified for the law assistance program under the EBSU program of the city signed their contracts. (JCR)
