PERSONS with disabilities in Davao City may enjoy a free movie pass six months from now after the city council passed on the third and final reading of an ordinance on it
"Napasa na gyud sa third and final reading ang bagong ordinansa (It was already approved during the third and final reading). I believe this is high time to give back for another community, dako kaayo ni mahatag nga kalipay para sa mga PWD (persons with disabilities) (this will give joy to our PWDs) ," Davao City councilor Jessica Bonguyan, chairperson of committee on games and amusement, said in an ambush interview on January 24, 2023 at the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
Bonguyan said all Davao City PWD with identification (ID) cardholders including cancer survivors, and rare diseases will be able to avail of the movie pass every Monday.
"Once a week po, for first movie screening mao ni atong mahatag sa ilaha (this is what we can give to them)," she said.
However, Bonguyan said guardians should pay the full amount for the movie if they want to watch it together with the PWD ID holder.
She said whoever will be caught for fraudulent acts like faking a PWD ID will be fined. The first offense will be P2,000, second offense will be P3,000 and the final offense will be P5,000 and they will be penalized accordingly with the revised penal code.
Although major movie theaters in the city are affirmative and have supported the ordinance, if they decide not to implement the ordinance they will not be penalized as it is voluntary in nature, Bonguyan said. KSD
