THE city government of Davao will enter into sisterhood agreements with three cities in Luzon to explore more opportunities and exchange best practices.
In a statement, Davao City Vice Mayor Bernard Al-ag said Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio will lead the signing of sisterhood agreements with San Juan City, Quezon City and Marikina City.
"This will strengthen and solidify our relations with concerned local government units in terms of economic and tourism development, and it will further improve exchanges of practices and local governance," the statement read.
Other members of the city's delegation are Al-ag and City Councilors Nilo Abellera, Maria Belen Acosta, Victorio Advincula Jr., Al Ryan Alejandre, Conrado Baluran, Cherry Ann Bonguyan, Joanne Bongguyan-Quilos, Pilar Braga and Carmelo Clarion along with Avegayle Ortiz-Omalza, Danilo Dayanghirang, April Marie Dayap, Councilor Jimmy Dureza, January Duterte, Edgar P. Ibuyan Jr., Leh A. Librado-Yap, Rene Elias C. Lopez, Antoinette Principe, Melchor Quitain Jr., Mary Joselle Villafuerte, Jesus Joseph Zozobrado III.
It can be recalled that Davao City International Relations Board (DCIRB) endorsed the proposal to pursue sisterhood agreements with two cities in Luzon to develop stronger relations and expand ties.
It granted Mayor Duterte-Carpio the legislative authority to sign the agreements.
In a report, Quezon City wanted to renew a memorandum of understanding (MOU) establishing the two cities' relationship inked in 1994 between former mayor Ismael Mathay and then mayor and now President Rodrigo Duterte.
The city has also signed several sister agreements with various cities in China and Hawaii.
