THE Department of Education (DepEd) has asked the Davao City Council to support its plan to open 31 new public schools in depressed, deprived, and underserved areas in Davao City.
Councilor Pilar Braga, committee on education chair, informed the city council about the DepEd request for endorsement in a privilege speech during the regular session on Tuesday, January 8.
Braga said she received a letter from Schools Division Superintendent Maria Ines Asuncion who requested for a City Council resolution supporting the creation of the schools.
The proposed public schools include the GSIS Heights National High School, Dominga National High School, Patag National High School, Upian National High School, Betan National High School, Bayanihan Integrated School, New Valencia Integrated School, Datu Lompipi National High School, Magsaysay National High School, Pangyan National High School and Mapula National High School.
The list includes Ula National High School, Carmen Integrated School, Bantol National High School, Taga-ibo National High School, Sumilop National High School, Matina Pangi National High School, Gilun Elementary School, Datu Duyan National High School, Matina Biao National High School, KTC Elementary School, and Luyan Elementary School.
Kabangbang Elementary School, Gumitan Integrated School, Malikongkong National High School, Balah Licosan National High School, Laho Integrated School, Lumiad National High School, Mabuhay National High School, Lumatag National High School, and Lacson Integrated School are also included.
The proposed names mentioned are evaluated and recommended based on the result of the ocular inspection conducted by the Regional Inspectorate Team.
"To complete the process of establishing new public elementary and secondary schools would require a resolution of support from the City Council," Braga said. (Lyka Amethyst H. Casamayor)
