ECONOMIC abuse is the topmost form of abuse women in Davao City get from their abusers, data from the Integrated Gender and Development Division of the City Mayor's Office showed in the first two quarters of 2018.
"Economic abuse kay wala ginasuportaan, wala nagahatag ug economic support sa pamilya (They are not supporting their family economically)," IGDD head Lorna Mandin said in a phone interview with VoxPop Davao on Tuesday, December 11.
Based on the IGDD record, economic abuse has 1,408 cases.
Psychological or emotional abuse placed second with 455 cases while physical abuse came third with 253 cases.
The relationships of respondents to clients are spouses (371) followed by former live-in partner (226) and live-in partner (119).
Department of Social Welfare and Development Davao Region focal person for violence against women and children Eden Macalino said the women who went through abuse will undergo psychological intervention such as counseling, free legal assistance and other assistance that will cater to the needs of the client. However, they will coordinate with the Davao City government should the client needs further assistance. (RJC)
