THE Department of Public Works and Highways in Davao Region (DPWH-11) will be constructing an esplanade along the Times Beach segment of the Davao City Coastal Road.
The P19-billion Davao City Coastal Road project provides for a 35-kilometer coastal road network which stretches from Bago Aplaya in the city's southern suburb to R. Castillo Avenue in the city proper.
The 18-kilometer Bago Aplaya to Times Beach segment will have an esplanade along Times Beach according to DPWH-XI spokesperson Dean Ortiz during his guesting at the Kapihan sa PIA.
An esplanade is an open space such a park or promenade located adjacent to a body of water such as a river or a sea.
Ortiz says the esplanade would be like the city's Peoples Park where people can stroll and enjoy the view.
Times Beach is a long sandy shoreline along Matina Aplaya formerly frequented by crowds of bathers and swimmers until it was declared as highly polluted in the early 1990s. Adjacent to Times Beach, the area known as Bonguyan Beach has become a surfing spot during habagat (southwest monsoon) season.
The Coastal Road Project will have esplanades in different segments one esplanade will be constructed in Gulf View in Bago Aplaya.
The Bago Aplaya to Times Beach segment of the Davao Coastal Road is among the major infrastructure projects under the Duterte administration's Build, Build, Build program for 2018. In Davao Region the Build, Build, Build infrastructure program has been allotted a historic high of P56-billion. (PR)
