A PERSONNEL of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) was arrested after he threatened the staff of a bar on Friday GTH, Dumoy, Davao City, when the latter refused to give drinks in adherence to the city's ordinance that prohibits selling, serving, drinking and consumption of liquors and alcoholic beverages beyond 1 a.m.
Based on the police report, the cop was identified as Bryant Jaranilla Sarcena, 30, a Philippine National Police (PNP) member assigned in Paquibato, and a resident of Sunrise Village, Padada, Davao Del Sur. He was apprehended for violation of grave threat.
Initial investigation conducted revealed that around 12:30 a.m. on June 8, allegedly, the suspect was trying to order liquor at Watch-up Videoke Bar but was not granted by the waiters because of the liquor ban. After that, the suspect brandished his service firearm.
"The waiter refuses to give liquor and explained to the suspect that it's almost liquor ban. Allegedly after an hour, the manager of the bar and the waiter were afraid when the suspect came back and subsequently drew a short fire arm and cocked it for several times, this prompted them (waiter and manager) to call for police assistance," the report read.
The apprehended suspect was brought to Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) hospital for liquor test examination and found positive in alcohol breath test. The firearm of the suspect was endorsed to Talomo Police Station Glock 17 with serial number PNP33481 with magazine and 10 live ammunition.
Around 3:30 p.m. on the same day, a case for grave threats was filed against him through a summary inquest procedure at the Davao City Prosecutors Office.
Meanwhile, DCPO director Police Senior Superintendent Alexander Tagum said in an interview said that they will not condone abuses committed by their personnel.
