A MAN who was just visiting an inmate at the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF) in Barangay Tanglaw, Dujali, Davao del Norte, ended up in jail after attempting to sneak in illegal drugs inside the jail facility.

Police Regional Office (PRO)-Davao spokesperson Police Chief Inspector Milgrace Driz said on Saturday that around 3:10 p.m., Dujali Municipal Police Station received a call from DPPF requesting for police assistance.

They found two persons at the Control Gate of the Penal Facility identified as Carlo Lopez, the visitor, 21, single, of Puerto Azul Subdivision, Barangay Tibal-og, and Jason Bolo Cayag, the inmate, 21, single, of Barangay San Jose, both of Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte. They were held by duty guards for possession of two small plastic tubes containing white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu.

Correctional Officer 3 Jerry Erwin Antero, duty guard of the control gate, stated that at 2:54 p.m., Alvarado came and brought food for Cayag and as part of the standard operating procedure, he conducted inspection on Alvarado. He noticed that Alvarado was discreetly handing something to Cayag by the window.

It was found out that Alvarado handed money and a rolled tissue paper wrapping one small plastic tube containing white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu to Cayag. Antero further frisked Alvarado and recovered from his possession another one small plastic tube containing same substance, Driz said.

Alvarado was turned over to the police officers while Cayag remained in the custody of DPPF. Cayag is serving sentence for the crime of Frustrated Murder and is now facing another case for violation of the provisions of RA 9165.
