THE Roxas Night Market vendors in Davao City will get new identification cards (IDs) with a quick response (QR) code system and occupancy permit with safety features to ensure security in the area.
"The ID system being imposed in Roxas Night Market is intended to improve the security situation in the area," Davao City Vice Mayor Bernard Al-ag said in a text message Thursday, September 6.
He said regulating and identifying the vendors and their staff is crucial in ensuring the safety of the public.
"I am confident that this will come highly accepted by all the vendors as a safe night market will attract more customers, thus, increasing sales and profit for them," Al-ag added.
Paul Bermejo, head of the Ancillary Services Unit, said in a statement: "For monitoring of the vendors in the night market, we will issue IDs from our office. It will have a QR code system so we can know and ensure that the vendors are the ones operating in their assigned stalls."
Meanwhile, the Davao City Police implemented last week the "No ID, No Entry" policy among the night market visitors.
Bermejo added that this initiative is important to prevent any danger that lurks "around the corner" as he cited the bombing incidents in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat on August 28 and September 2.
"I hope that they (public) won't stop going to the Roxas Night Market. They should not worry because our security forces are ensuring the safety of the place," he said.
